Which Version of the Deadly Premonition Game is the Rarest?

If you missed Deadly Premonition when it was released back in 2010 for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 or PC, you can still pick up this third-person action horror for around $30 at Amazon. Better yet, if you have a Steam account, you may want to invest in the new "Deadly Premonition: The Board Game" which includes the original game key. This way you own both: the niche video game and its rare board game!

Never heard of Deadly Premonition? Don't miss out twice - if you're interested or even slighly curious... read on!

So in the game, the entire journey takes place in a fictional town called Greenvale. Players take the role of FBI agent Francis York Morgan (more known as just York), and investigate the murder of Anna Graham. York links Anna's case to a series of other similar ritualistic deaths, and sets out to solve the mystery behind the "Red Seed Murders."

There is a lot to do when exploring Greenvale. Players can enter most shops, restaurants, bars, and resident homes. You'll also need to maintain York's vitality by watching his health, breathing, sleep, and hunger meter (yes... he needs to eat, sleep, and shave). The action in Deadly Premonition involves hand-hand combat and uses firearms and melee weapons (knives, axe, clubs, shovels, etc). Throughout the investigation, York will try to battle or evade shadows and otherworldly creatures. Players will also face a folklore nemesis dubbed as the Raincoat Killer, the most dangerous enemy in the game. This serial killer wears a red coat and wields an axe to take down his victims. The Raincoat Killer frightens and haunts the town - especially on rainy days!

Deadly Premonition is a rare cult classic because of its bizzare narrative and memorable cast. The story is suspenseful, surprisingly unpredictable, and even shockingly humorous. The atmosphere, soundtrack, and story sequence is eerie, haunting, and sometimes deliberately inappropriate. In other words, the game knows how to frighten and disturb you, but will also throw in a lot of quirky comic relief. It's a unique, strange and crazy interactive experience worth playing for yourself.

Now back in May 2017, Rising Star Games opened a passion project on Kickstarter for Deadly Premonition as a board game. The campaign was successfully funded by avid fans and quickly became another sensational hit. Inspired by the original story, players will return to Greenvale to profile the murder case of Anna Graham. Each player is given 6 suspect cards to figure out who is innocent all while each turn gets them closer to the killer hiding among them! Depending on your role, as detective or the killer, you will need to manipulate the board to win. This is a semi role playing game for a party of 2-4 that last about 30-40 minutes. To learn more on how to play the board game, visit the official page.

For fans who missed the Kickstarter pledge, you can still get the retail version of Deadly Premonition: The Board Game Deluxe Edition. The product is available on Amazon through a distribution partnership between Rising Star Games and Crescent Marketing Inc.

The Deluxe Edition contains:

  • Cloth Gaming Mat
  • 1 Custom Die
  • Original Soundtrack
  • 60 Profiling Cards
  • 24 Suspect Cards
  • Token Sheet
  • 4 Line-up Boards
  • 4 Alignment Cards
  • 5 Agent Bio Cards
  • 4 Guide Cards
  • 10 Weather Cards
  • The Game Manual
  • Steam game Key for Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut

The best reason to get the board game is that players don't need any previous knowledge of the video game. So there is no need to set up a Steam account in case you don't have one. But if you're less interested in the board experience and own a PS3 or Xbox 360, getting a used copy is a budget friendly option. What if you're an invested collector wanting this game in new condition? Well, the rarest version of Deadly Premonition that's still available is the Directors Cut Collectors Classified Edition (exclusively on the PS3). You can check out Amazon for their available selection and regardless of what version you buy, the staff at GQD highly recommends giving Deadly Premonition a try.
