Capcom and Clover Studios present OKAMI, an interesting PS2 game that gives players the challenge of restoring color to a world that is slowly dying. While an action game, OKAMI still finds time to create a world that blends art, mythology, and action. No other game looks and feels like OKAMI. Gamers take on the role of a Amaterasu, the Japanese goddess of the sun and one of the central figures in Japanese mythology. Amaterasu finds that the world has been nearly destroyed by the ancient monster Orochi. Fearing for the lives of the remaining humans and determined to restore color and life to the world, Amaterasu takes on the form of a wolf and travels to earth to defeat Orochi and his followers. As a wolf, players will find themselves challenges in ways that they haven't been before. Amaterasu moves and attacks in ways that human characters can't. Besides scratching and biting, she also has strong magical attacks and other abilities, although many have to be unlocked first. To unlock them, players must find the three talismans of Amaterasu: a sword, a mirror, and a strand of jewels. Each grants her more powers and stronger attacks. OKAMI draws very heavily on Japanese art, and some of the backgrounds and scenes in the game are gorgeous. It also draws heavily on mythology, and players will find themselves learning all about the Japanese gods as they battle their way to Orochi and save the earth.
