Sega combines fighting game-style attacks with an RPG storyline and world to create VIRTUA QUEST for the Game Cube. The game follows the story of Sei, a young boy who is talked into becoming a hunter by his friend Hayami. A hunter searches the vast virtual world of the Nexus for data chips and then sells them for outrageous prices. However, a mysterious organization has been kidnapping hunters, and Sei soon finds himself drawn into a plot to find the powerful virtua souls. Sei will have a small number of missions available at the beginning of the game, with more missions unlocked as current missions are completed. Once Sei enters the Nexus, he will encounter a variety of enemies as he searches for data chips and the virtua souls. In combat, Sei begins with the basic abilities of punch, kick, block, and jump. Only by collecting the virtua souls can he gain new powers. The virtua souls themselves are the embodiment of a powerful fighter the VIRTUA FIGHTER characters, to be exact. Players of the VIRTUA FIGHTER games will find all their favorite characters, including Akira and Lei Fei, are back. To gain their special powers, Sei must defeat them in battle. VIRTUA QUEST is a great introduction to the RPG genre for fighting game players who have never played a RPG before and vice versa. For players who like VIRTUA FIGHTER, there’s the added bonus of seeing their favorite characters in a new world.
